Random Animal Wheel

Give a child a random animal and you have a game: act it out, draw it, make its noise, say three facts about it. The wheel is the part that keeps it fair and stops anyone choosing the easy one.

Click the wheel to try it — nothing is saved until you use it.

Charades, drawing and guessing games

The wheel hands out the animal so the person whose turn it is does not get to pick something easy. It works the same for a class of thirty and for two children at a kitchen table, and needs nothing but a screen.

Match it to what you are teaching

Copy the wheel and swap in the animals from the topic you are on — habitats, farm animals, minibeasts, the ones in the book you are reading. A wheel built around a lesson is worth more than a generic one.

Questions about this wheel

Can I use pictures instead of names?

Yes. Each slice can carry its own image, which is what you want for children who are not reading yet.

Can I make the wheel easier for younger children?

Fewer entries means bigger slices and simpler choices. A six-animal wheel is easier to play with than a twenty-animal one.
